 Ian Souch appeared in print and online in this weeks edition of the Bucks Free Press. In an article by Francine Wolfisz, HCMS Member Ian Souch talks about his work, mentalism, and his up coming examination for AIMC. The full article can be read below, or via the Bucks Free Press site.
Long gone are the days of audiences at magic shows being impressed with rabbits being pulled out of hats, or women being sawn in half. Today's cynical crowd wants something altogether a bit more sophisticated and leading the ranks are magicians such as Derren Brown, David Blaine and Dynamo (perhaps there is something magical about the letter D). Bucks-based magician Ian Souch, who is a member of the elite Magic Circle and will soon be taking his exams for the even more exclusive Inner Magic Circle, may not come with a camera crew like his celebrity associates, but his act is every bit as impressive and mind-boggling. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to see him at work one balmy summer evening, when he popped over to a friend's house to entertain a group of us as we scoffed down mountains of BBQ food. |

Congratulations to HCMS Member Andrew Webb who has won the Magic Box 'Trick-Tac Competition'. Last February Newcastle-Upon-Tyne based Magic dealer, 'Magic Box' asked magicians to create a marketable effect that let the performer accurately predict how many tic-tacs a spectator had removed from a Tic Tac box. The prize for the best solution submitted before the end of April 2008 was £300.00 of magic plus their effect released through Magic Box. The Judges decided on a joint winner combining the effects created by Andrew Webb and Rob Lupin into a single effect which will be launched and sold at the Blackpool Magic Convention in 2009! This is Andrew's second marketed effect that will be produced through Magic Box. Well Done!! |

 HCMS Member Richard Young was auctioned off in Chipping Norton last night. The charity event was held at the Lido Swimming pool, the Auction of Promises started in 2004 to raise much-needed funds to help keep the Lido open, and Richards services were put under the hammer by Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear Fame.

 Many thanks to all the members of the Home Counties Magic Society for their support through my application process to join the Magic Circle.
I am pleased to announce that last night I received a phone call informing me that I had passed the audition (all three judges passed me on all the necessary criteria) and I am now a full member of the Magic Circle. |

Brian Dodridge's "Bill the Pill" Close-Up effect shown to members at a recent meeting is featured in the current edition of the above monthly publication. I was very pleased to see this effect when I started my browse through the magazine this morning (27 May '08). Members lucky enough to have seen this "brainchild" of Brian's will recall how well it was received when he demonstrated, and explained the effect at a recent meeting. Well done Brian. I am sure all members will have their fingers well crossed for a successful outcome for this effect in the Cecil Lyle Award Competition (best effect submitted to The Magic Circular Magazine). |
