Member Ian Souch Features in The Marlow Free Press this week:
MARLOW'S answer to Derren Brown is preparing for the biggest gig of his life at next month's Edinburgh Fringe Festiva. Award-winning magician Ian Souch has performed at hundreds of corporate gigs, and is branching into cabaret, but his own mindreading show at the Fringe is easily the biggest thing he has ever done.
The likeable 42-year-old, who won an award at last year's Home Counties Magical Society show, said the preparation for next month's Reality Vaccine gig had been hard work but he was excited at the prospect of taking part in one of the world's biggest festivals. Like so many people in his line of work
Ian, who has been a full-time magician for six years, first started performing at a young age. "I have always been fascinated by magic," he said. "When I was in my 20s, and all my friends were working their way up the corporate ladder, I was reading, books on the power of the mind. When I carne over from South. Africa eight years ago, I joined the Magic Circle and started to meet up with more people involved with mentalism and decided it suited my persona."

At the Annual General Meeting last Thursday, the subject of joining The Magic Circle cropped up. Members may remember that in September 2008 an entertaining examination evening was held at our September meeting and four of our members were successful in gaining admittance, after approval by the Council of The Magic Circle.
If there are, amongst the welcome number of new faces at the Society any members interested in joining The Magic Circle I will be pleased to hear from them, either at a meeting or via Email
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
- I have all the details needed, including an introductory DVD and will be pleased to hear from you to discuss this very worthwhile step further.
Andrew Webb, our talented Society WebMaster is also actively engaged with the running and improvement of The Magic Circle's WebSite, having joined TMC following his successful audition for membership in 2008 and the Membership Secretary for TMC is Robert Cox, a former member of the Home Counties Magical Society back in the 1960's.
If there is sufficient response, it may well be possible arrange another examination evening. If you are already a member then you might be interested in obtaining your Associate Membership of The Inner Magic Circle, and our three members who just "missed the boat" in 2008 may think the time is ripe for a further attempt at this advancement of their status in TMC.
I look forward to hearing from you. |

Following the Annual General Meeting and with refreshments out of the way, Brian Dodridge announced the first of the six acts (volunteers from amongst our newer and re-joined members) who entertained with a pleasing mixture of card magic, rope magic, mentalism, an aromatic duck, borrowed money in danger, a book test, one member even had his own lecture notes and DVD available for sale!
There was a great deal of light hearted badinage and no shortage of willing helpers - quite certain that one thought he would be paid at the end of the evening ! Slight errors were dealt with in a competent and humorous fashion and the evening drew to a close to applause and thanks for providing an enjoyable finish to the 63rd Annual General Meeting of the Society. certainly an idea of Brian’s that well deserves repeating.
The six, dealing the cards and calling the shots were - Steve Graham, Mark Gandhi, Mike Green, Rodney Type, David O’Connor and Simon Hill. Well done all concerned ! |
