This took place at the last meeting when the "Gang of Seven" braved the examiners and sought to either attain the performance standard for admittance to The Magic Circle or elevate their status to Associate of the Inner Magic Circle. There was good support from the members present (the audience did in fact include a number of "real people") and without doubt the evening offered both mystery and entertainment. I doubt if any went home without the feeling of "that was a good meeting". The magic was varied and whilst the evening was not presented in the true manner of the numerous shows the Society has put on over past years, ran very smoothly. The gallant Seven were, Fred in the Shed (aka Dan Hudson), Andrew Webb (our King of the WebSite), Rob Gaffney (who has applied to join the Society), and Richard Young (a busy young professional), these four were "going for membership". They were followed by the three aspirants to elevation, Peter Bentley, Ian Souch and Robert Bone. The three Examiners for the evening were Rob Cox (The Magic Circle Examination Secretary), Jack Delvin (the recently elected Vice President of The Magic Circle) and Richard Pinner (President of The Zodiac Society) all three gentlemen are Gold Star Members of The Magic Circle and part of the very busy administration team. A welcome visitor was Mandy Davis (or as she is now, Mrs Robert Cox) Chairman of The Magic Circle's youth initiative, The Young Magicians Club and I'm pleased to say that I have again been invited to join them for their J-Day and act as a Judge for the Stage Competition ... fittingly where the major trophy is the HCMS Award. Congratulations to all who "dared to win", however results will not be announced until ratified by the Council of The Magic Circle hopefully early in October, so watch this space. If there are any other members who may be thinking of joining The Magic Circle or elevating their status, please get in touch with me, I have Examination Guidelines which I am sure will be of interest.
