The Magic Castle began its life as a private home built in 1908 by banker and real estate magnate Rollin B. Lane. Mr. Lane owned much of what is now Hollywood, dreaming of turning his land into orange groves, farms and ranches. Severe drought brought his dreams to an abrupt end and orange blossoms never filled the valley.
In the last few years The Magic Castle has seen an uncertain future. The land that the world famous venue has stood on has been up for sale a number of times, with rumors about it's use and the future of the Castle abundant. However in the last few days, it seems that a single buyer has brought the hillside, Yamashiro and the Castle itself. Fortunately, Whit Hayden, Vice President of the Academy of Magical Arts and the Magic Castle itself has said: "The hillside, Yamashiro and the Castle have all been sold to a single buyer. We expect to have a long term lease for the Magic Castle with the new owners. Everything seems to be going very well." The purchase price of the deal was in the region of $70 Million.
