There is an interesting article in the Financial Times from a few weeks ago that talks about Max Malini, and the time the author, Sam Knight spent with Steve Dela and Troy von Scheibner, two young magicians working in London, and their commitment through The Young Magicians Club, competitions and route from young magicians to the big world of magic.

It also mentions past member Rob Cox, now examinations secretary of The Magic Circle;

A former maths teacher from Luton, Cox recently used the GCSE marking system to reform the Magic Circle’s admissions procedures. He told me that an oft-quoted statistic – that a third of The Magic Circle’s 1,500 members manage to rely on magic for their income – was almost certainly an exaggeration. The real number is less than half that (some say it is just 5 per cent). Including those outside The Magic Circle, he estimated that there could be no more than 500 people in the UK, probably far fewer, making a living this way. “I think it’s good for the kids to get a job,” he said.

The Article is interesting reading, and certianly givs a good insight into the progress from a young performer into a upcoming name in magic..
