Sooty is 60 this year, and as well as being the first puppet to wish Nelson Mandela a happy 90th birthday, he has returned home to entertainer Richard Cadell.
Like many well know names today, Richard Cadell took part in, and won one of The Home Counties Magical Society Junior days, before going on to become Young Magician of the Year at the age of 15. Richard has bought the rights to Sooty from US based Hit Entertainment for close to a six figure sum, a far cry from when Harry Corbett brought the original Sooty on Blackpool pier for 6p in 1948.
Richard, who has worked with Sooty for a decade has said: "I am so excited to introduce Sooty to a new generation of children who just want to be entertained. Sooty is about fun and magic and laughter and I intend to put him firmly on the map of must-see children's entertainment. The generations who know and love Sooty will be able to enjoy him once again, with their children. This is a really exciting time." Sooty's future back in showbiz looks bright with a sitcom, a children's game show, an interactive show in front of a studio audience of children as well as a theatre tour all in the pipeline for the long silent bear. Matthew Corbett has stated his support for Richard, saying: "I am delighted that Sooty is in, or should I say on, the right hands." The Home Counties Magical Society also wish Sooty, Sweep, Soo and Richard, all our very best wishes and good luck.. |
