Whilst in London last week-end at the International Magic Convention (see www.magicconventionguide.com for a full review), I picked up a leaflet issued by the Magic Lantern Society on a number of talks to be held in the next few weeks.  The talks are on visual magic, and are to be held at the Old Cinema, University of Westminister, 309, Regent Street, London, W18 2UW.  The talks commence at 7.00pm sharp.  They issue the tickets from 6.00pm.  The best news is that the tickets are free!!!

The next talk is to be held on Thursday 10th December and is titled "Grappling with Ghosts: Staging Ghost Effects in the Modern Theatre" by Paul Kieve.  Paul is one of the UK's most prolific designers of theatrical illusions (Lords of the Rings, Zorro, The Invisible Man).  He is the only magician to appear in and consult on the Harry Potter movies, and is the author of the internationally published book "Hocus Pocus".  His current projects include "Zorro" at the Folies Bergere in Paris and the forthcoming musical "Ghost".

(Note from KC:  Longstanding members and those connected with J-Days will remember that Paul was one of our Reading J-Day winners and since then has, like many other of our winners and attendees, gone on to become a respected name in the Magical World. If you have not yet read his book, Hocus Pokus, then put this on your Christmas list).

Further talks are due to be held next year on 28th January, 11th February and the 25th February.

More information on the Magic Lantern Society can be found on their web page and www.magiclantern.org.uk
