Magic isn't just for the young, an article at InsideBayArea.com talks about 97 year old John Calvert, who was the first magician to do a big magic stage show in Vegas, and on Broadway, and who has performed with the likes of Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, Danny Kaye and Edgar Bergen.

John knew Harry Blackstone, senior and junior and has outlived them both, and if that's not enough Siegfried and Roy have called Calvert an 'inspiration'.

With a full heart and nothing up his deep-purple, sparkly-velvet sleeve, the tall, lean and spry-like-he's-35 gentleman with a wave of silver hair (think Douglas Fairbanks or George Hamilton) brought his magicians' lecture tour to the Oakland Magic Circle. It's the oldest magic club in the Western U.S. Where the only requirement for membership is a love of magic as an art form and a penchant for porkpie hats.
Calvert is still a working performer, still performing an amazing 300 shows and lectures a year, talking to aspiring magicians, and he's even booked at the Palladium in London on Aug. 5, 2011 - his 100th birthday. Book early for the best seats!!!
