Broken Wand – Ernie Jones
I am sorry to have to inform members of the death of Ernie Jones at the age of 89. He died on 5th November from bladder cancer that had spread to other areas.
Ernie joined the HCMS in 1978. He was President in 1992-3 and contributed greatly to the success of the Reading Junior Days which for those of you who don’t know was the HCMS Annual Competition for Young Magicians. The Competition gave the Society much prestige over the last quarter of the twentieth century. Ernie will best be remembered as a children’s performer.
For health reasons and due to the difficulty of travelling to meetings from the Oxford area he did not renew his membership after 2012. However, a couple of years later, the Council recommended he be made an Honorary Member which the members endorsed.
His Humanist Funeral, celebrating his life, will take place on Monday, 20th November at 11.00 a.m. at South Oxfordshire Crematorium and Memorial Park, Garford, Abingdon, OX13 5PA and afterwards at The Dog House, Faringdon Road, Frilford Heath, Oxon, OX13 6QL. Anyone wishing to attend the wake should RSVP his daughter, Kim Jones, on email firstname.lastname@example.org. Apparently his coffin will be black and painted with stars and magic wands.
