April 20th 2017 – Chris Randall Lecture


Chris Randall was born and raised in Las Vegas and known as “The Las Vegas Kid”. His style is a mix of sleight of hand, comedy, and sizzling hot illusions. Chris has appeared on The Masters of Illusion TV show in the States and is a regular at the famed Magic Castle in Hollywood. Awards include the coveted Silver Medal of Excellence from the International Brotherhood of Magicians and IBM Stage Magician of the Year 2015. Chris has performed worldwide and on several cruise ships. In this lecture you will learn a combination of close up and parlor/stage magic.

May 4th 2017 – Eric Jones Lecture


Regarded by his peers as one of magic’s rising stars, Eric Jones has made quite a name for himself in the world of magic. Armed with cunning sleight of hand and a charming personality, he will astound you with his digital dexterity. When Eric performs, cards fly, coins multiply and audiences cheer! An award winning performer, Eric’s magic has been showcased at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, and at NYC’s Monday Night Magic, the longest running magic show in New York. Eric has appeared on television in 13 countries. Eric’s lecture will challenge you to look at your magic in a whole new light: discussing ways to make close-up effects play to large audiences; re-directing attention rather than misdirecting it and how to properly block/stage your performances to both conceal methods as well as well as optimize audience reactions.

Finnish born Christian Engblom started magic at the age of three and had his first public performance at the age of five for a finnish-swedish radio program. His hobby followed him through his childhood, until it fully awakened during his exchange year in USA, he turned professional in 1992. Christian makes study trips around the world and educates colleagues in the mysteries of magic. This award winning magician won the coveted Close-up Finnish Championships in 2003. Christian, who specializes in close-up magic as well as card magic, can be seen at different corporate- and private functions, on cruise ships, on TV, festivals and all around. If you have ever been interested in card cheating, Christian can show you how they really do it.

July 20th 2017 – Shoot Ogawa Lecture


Shoot Ogawa was born in Tokyo, Japan, where he discovered his love for magic at the age of 10. By the time he was 17, he had travelled to the United States and won the First Place award for Stage Magic at the St. Louis Magic Jubilee.  That was the start of a long list of prizes and accolades that Shoot has earned while developing his art and visiting over 40 countries around the world. Back at home, in Tokyo, he has performed on all 7 television channels. Upon moving to Hollywood in 2002, Shoot become a regular performer at the world famous Magic Castle. Just one year later, in 2003, he received their Close-up Magician of the Year award. He was only 27 years old,  making him the youngest magician in the history of the Academy of Magical Arts to earn that title. He won it a second time in 2006. By this time, California’s Lighthouse Magazine called Shoot “The most popular Japanese entertainer in the USA.” In both 2008 and 2009, Shoot was awarded the Academy of Magical Arts’ Parlor Magician of the Year award. His reputation spread worldwide when he was invited to participate as guest performer at FISM – the Olympics of magic – in both 2009, in China; and 2012, in the United Kingdom. Most recently, he was named the Academy of Magical Arts’ Stage Magician of the Year for 2015. Shoot Ogawa has proven himself to be a world-class performer and for this new lecture he will be sharing stories, routines, and effects that he has been working on over the last five years. Shoot also teaches from 3 new DVDs created just for this lecture and uses these new tricks to emphasize a deeper understanding of his personal magic:- how he creates tricks; how to be more skilful as a performer; creating the desired “magical feeling” with any trick; what he thinks is a “good magician”, and how to control the power of magic.

The stage/cabaret/parlor style competition is held for the Paul Pearman Trophy; the current holder of the trophy is Simon Jones. Members wishing to compete should notify Andy Lewis or any other member of the council of their intention to compete. Family and friends are welcome to attend, the more the merrier..

November 16th 2017 – Jim Krenz Lecture


Jim Krenz has been interested in magic since the age of five. Jim spent at least fifteen years working for Jay and Francis Marshall at Magic Inc and has regularly performed close-up at Schulien’s Restaurant in Chicago. In 1993, he won the Most Valuable Participant award at the prestigious FFFF convention. He has created over three dozen original effects and techniques, and has lectured about them in nine countries. Jim has studied with Ed Marlo, Jim Ryan, Tony Andruzzi, Don Alan, Eugene Burger, Slydini, Tommy Wonder and Juan Tamariz. His lecture contains his original ideas, theories, routines and improvements in close-up magic.
